How Did Vail Builders Inc. Get Started?
Just a little information about our history...
Our construction company started was created when Richard Vail (founder of Vail Builders Inc) built his first house in 1966 in the city of Hugo. His wife and six children where honored to live in Vail Builders Inc's first official home. Ever since then it has been a family business; he hired relatives and friends, even some qualified co-workers who were looking for work, as his business grew.
After 20 years, his son James R. Vail officially joined the company as a master carpenter and contractor. James Vail had acquired the knowledge of digital design programs; which directed the business into another branch of construction, design.
In 1972 Vail Builders Inc constructed a development in Hugo, called Evergreen Hills, it contained 34 homes total. A few years later they started another development in White Bear Lake, on the southwest corner of Buffalo street and North western, it consisted of 22 homes.
In 1982 Vail builders Inc. constructed another development in Hugo called Shamrock Glen, it had a total of 13 homes and multiple single family homes.
Company Biography
James Vail started working for the business since he was 5 years old. In 1996 James took and passed the Minnesota residential contractors exam, allowing him to take over the Vail Builders, Inc license. In 1996, while he was still working for his father, James decided that the future of construction was going advance through CAD (Computer Aided Design) programs. So James and his Father enrolled in a class through Hennepin Technical College to learn about and better understand the Chief Architect CAD program. Instantly James was the top architect in his class, he soon created his first virtual home with the CAD program. With years to come, James changed the direction of the business by helping homeowners get a clearer vision of their plans for their future home; by showing remodeling plans and new homes designs. Back then and currently, James designs all of Vail builders, Inc designs; such as, additions, bathroom remodels, custom cabinetry, decks, front porches and screen porches, kitchen remodels, finished basements, new mudroom entries with custom cabinet cubbies, full house remodel jobs and most of their new homes.

We wanted to create a unique deck. We went back to Jim Vail who had done such an awesome job with our kitchen renovation several years ago. The deck is beautiful (not something I say very often about decks), maintenance free, and is exactly what we wanted.
